Audit Assistant has been around for over 15 years.
We have always emphasised working together with our users to develop our product, including responsive support, and admitting when we get it wrong.
Our vision is to create tools and services to help assurance and related professionals support and add credibility to the charities, community organisations, and businesses that they serve for a more just, transparent, and caring world. We love making great, innovative software in collaboration with our users. Supporting auditors in their work and doing it with style is why we make Audit Assistant.
We help auditors and related professionals complete their work efficiently and in full compliance with assurance and reporting standards. We started with a focus mainly on the NZ SME and Charity sectors, providing small and mid-tier firms and networks with the support they need to stay up to speed, including training and file-review quality control services. We are in the process of developing an international template based in the LCE (Less Complex Entities) standard, as well as focussing on Small to IFRS audits mainly for the Australasian market. Audit Assistant utilises the latest technology and audit techniques so users can rest assured.
Clive McKegg develops the original commercial version, marketed through Solution 6, using Excel as a platform (1.0). This original version answers a need for auditors in NZ to help produce efficient work-papers compliant with the NZ Codified Auditing Standards. Later Matt McKegg develops an on-line front end using Microsoft .Net technology.
With the advances in cloud software technology and the adoption in NZ of International Auditing Standards (ISAs) it becomes obvious that it is time for a new approach, incorporating the good ideas from the original version with a much more powerful and flexible technology base using – the 2.0 version providing a full documentation software platform for Auditing. Audit Assistant Ltd is formed, with Clive McKegg and Matt McKegg as directors.
We engage a full-timer developer plus a content developer soon afterwards. Our users represent over 40% of NZ auditors plus a number in the Pacific Islands.
In addition to services to auditors, we begin to offer systems for accounting firms, and AML auditors.
We realise that to grow into the wider market we needed to update the entire documentation software platform, so we engage a senior software engineer to lead the version 3 (V3) project, rebuilding and reimagining the software based on a Laravel PHP platform, plus moving hosting to Australia and overhauling our security and storage processes.
We engage a content developer/administrator while developing custom versions based on our platform, such as for the NZ Law Society Inspectorate.
Significant parts of V3 are released including the dashboard and new-look interface for our documentation software. We began to use two additional contractors for the new platform development.
We hold our first national Conference in Auckland, NZ and prepare to launch into the Australian market, obtain SOC2 certification and expand our board and shareholding to take the company to the next level.
We like going the extra mile to ensure that the interface is attractive, fast, intuitive, consistent, and is based on robust, proven technologies.
We support professional practices that serve charities and businesses that are providing jobs, connections, and care in our communities.
We love collaborative development across our team to produce a cohesive product, giving every member opportunity to take responsibility and initiative.
We enjoy staying ahead of developments in standards and technology and providing guidance for our users concerning changes in the assurance world.
