Unfortunately we have had a server crash this afternoon. We have tried to reboot from our end but we suspect that this may be a hardware error and we will have to get Sitehost to check this out for us at the data centre.
5:45pm All up and running now. It wasn't a hardware issue. It seems like a configuration issue we need to work on. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Some of you will be aware that we had a system outage on Friday afternoon from about 4:10pm.
Unfortunately our server crashed and when we tried to reboot it was not responsive from our end which lead us to suspect that this may have been a hardware error at the data centre. We were imagining having to recover from backups and reconfiguring another machine, but fortunately this was not necessary. It was just a configuration issue and we were able to restart at 5:45pm.
Those of you who have been with us for a while know that we take full system accessibility and reliability very seriously and try to limit downtime to an absolute minimum. We will be taking a close look to find out how the error occurred and ensure we repair any weak link to try to avoid this happening again. These moments always present a good opportunity to revisit and strengthen our backup and recovery procedures, which we will also be doing over the next few weeks.
